Child Injured in Escalator Accident at the Mall of Georgia

Accident occurred near Macy's department store.

A child was injured after falling on an escalator at the Mall of Georgia Wednesday evening.

The Dec. 28 accident occurred at approximately 7 p.m. near Macy’s.

According to Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services public information officer Capt. Tommy Rutledge, a small child fell from a stroller while on the escalator. The child, whose age and gender was not released, was transported to Scottish Rite Hospital for evaluation of minor injuries, Rutledge said.

Attempts to reach mall officials for comment were unsuccessful.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warns that children should not be brought onto escalators in strollers, walkers, or carts. Officials recommend using elevators when transporting a child in a stroller.
