Electric Pet Bed Sparks Fire at Lilburn Home

A man living in the home was awakened by a loud popping sound.

An early morning fire damaged a Lilburn home and the cause is believed to be an electric pet bed warmer.

A man was awake at the home at the home on the 4300 block of Deer Ridge Court, SW at about 3am Friday when he heard a loud popping sound. He went downstairs and saw flames in the back of the house. Another person sleeping on the couch was awakened on by the noise and told the others to get out of the house.

The two tried to extinguish the fire with a garden hose, but were unsuccessful.

When fire crews arrived, the man told firefighters there was no smoke in the house so the smoke detectors did not go off.

The fire burned the kitchen and up to the bathroom on the second floor. It caused significant damage to the attic and filled the home with smoke.

All three adults and one child made it out of the home safely. Firefighters were able to save the family pets-- two dogs and two guinea pigs.

The family of four was displaced and is staying with relatives nearby.
