Erratic Man Arrested in Connection to Following Wife, Stealing Her Cell Phone

The man accused her of cheating on him, even though they were days from getting officially divorced.

A Snellville man was arrested last week after he allegedly followed his soon-to-be ex-wife, stole her cell phone and sped off from police in the Lilburn area.

According to the Gwinnett County Police report, the wife met with officers at the Wendy's off Five Forks Trickum Road and Tom Smith Road. She told police that she pulled into a turn lane off Killian Hill Road when she noticed a car following her around 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

He accused her of "cheating" on him, and he apparently knew she was going to meet someone. She locked her doors and drove off, but not without him following her again.

Now at a red light at Five Forks Trickum Road, he got out of the car and started yelling at her a second time. She attempted to call police, but he jumped halfway through her passenger window and took her phone. He got back in his car and drove toward Oak Road.

While police were interviewing the wife, the husband's car passed them on the road, so one of the officers followed him. When the officer pulled up behind the vehicle, he sped off.

Police were able to track down the wife's phone to Colonial Trail, and the officer detained the husband. He denied the allegations, saying that she was following him and climbed into his driver's side window and scratched him.

He denied taking her phone, but police found it when they searched his car. He claimed that his wife planted the phone there. He also said he didn't see police when they originally tried to pull him over.

He said that there were scratch marks on his side and back, but police only observed red marks made from laying on the edge of a window or door frame.

The husband was arrested and charged with robbery by sudden snatching, speeding, obstructing a personal from making an emergency call, reckless driving, and fleeing or attempting to elude.
