Family of Four Displaced by Fire on Hampton Trail

No injuries were reported in a fire that displaced two adults and two teenagers.

A three-engine fire has displaced a Lilburn family of four, two adults and two teenagers, Wednesday night.

The family wasn't home when the fire started and came home as neighbors were calling 911. Gwinnett County firefighters arrived to find the rear of the two-storey house engulfed in flames, said Capt. Tommy Rutledge, spokesman for the fire department, in an email.

The fire caused "extensive damage" to the attic and porch, and part of the deck collapsed, Rutledge said.

The fire appears to have started beneath the screened porch, and the cause is under investigation.

"Firefighters worked aggressively to control the blaze using multiple hoselines," Rutledge said, and had the fire under control within 35 minutes after arriving on the scene.
