Father Allegedly Beats Daughter With Bat

A father and daughter's argument turned into aggravated assault by aluminum bat.

A man was arrested earlier this month after he allegedly beat his daughter with an aluminum bat, pushed her down a flight of stairs and choked her.

During the early morning hours of Oct. 7 at the Kroger at 4155 Lawrenceville Highway, Lilburn police officers met with a 20-year-old college student who had been allegedly beaten by her father. According to the police report, she was suffering from a headwound and an abrasion on her arm, in addition to pain in her shoulders and a right hand she couldn't move.

She told police that she had been arguing with her father in their nearby home. She was standing at the top of the staircase while he was at the bottom. At one point, she said, he walked away and came back with two aluminum bats.

He threw one bat at her, striking her in the forehead. She said he then ran up the stairs to start choking her, and then he pushed her down the stairs.

She said they continued to fight, and then she left the home to walk to Kroger for help.

Police then interviewed the father, 40, after police met with him. He stated that he never struck his daughter, but they had been arguing. She was being disrespectful to him, he said, so he told her to leave.

At first, his wife told police nothing physical happened between the two, but she eventually contradicted herself. According to the report, she admitted that the two had been fighting and she had to physically separate the two. She would not elaborate further, however.

Another family member said that he heard arguing and a commotion in the home, but he didn't witness anything with his own eyes. He confirmed, however, that there were baseball bats in the home.

The father was arrested for aggravated assault and domestic violence battery. The daughter was taken to the Gwinnett Medical Center for treatment, and her wounds were photographed as evidence.
