Fire Crews Fight Flames on Harmony Grove

A passerby called 911 Sunday evening to report smoke coming from the roof of a home in Lilburn.

A residential fire was reported off Harmony Grove in Lilburn on Sunday evening (June 2).

No one was injured in the incident, and Gwinnett County firefighters were able to control the flames, according to fire spokesman Capt. Tommy Rutledge.

A passerby who called 911 reportedly saw smoke coming from the roof of the single-story wooden-framed home around 7:54 p.m. Fire crews found the smoke and also a fire in the kitchen, which they were able to knock out with hose lines by 8:10 p.m.

The fire caused heavy damage to the kitchen and sent smoke and heat throughout the rest of the house. The exact cause of the fire is undetermined and is under active investigation.

As of 10:37 p.m. Sunday, the fire does not appear to be weather-related, according to Rutledge.

Equipment at the scene included: 3-Engines, 1-Ladder Truck, 1-Squad, 1-Air & Light Unit, 1-Medic Ambulance, 2-Battalion Chiefs and 1-Fire Investigator.
