Fire Injures Child, Displaces Family of 5

The fire damaged a home on Cedar Wood Drive in Lilburn.

A child suffered minor injuries and a family of five displaced following a fire at a Lilburn home.

On Tuesday evening, fire crews were called to a home on the 4900 block of Cedar Wood Drive. The caller told the dispatcher the fire started when someone was cooking in the home.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from every upstairs window of the two-story home and a blaze in the garage.

It took firefighters about 30 minutes to get the fire under control.

Investigators determined the fire began in the garage where someone was cooking on a working range. They have ruled this fire an accident caused by unattended cooking equipment in the garage.

The child suffered minor burns and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. No one else was injured.

The garage was heavily damaged in the incident. The rest of the house suffered smoke, heat and water damage.
