French Fry Fire Consumes Lilburn House

A kitchen fire ignited by an unattended pan of grease consumed a home at the 161 block of Arcado Road Sunday.

A kitchen fire caused by a pan of unattended french fries destroyed a Lilburn residence Sunday.

Firefighters responded to the incident at the 161 block of Arcado Road Sunday, June 29 at 10:42 p.m. Crews said the one-story house partially collapsed before arrival and firefighters were not immediately able to enter the structure. Though firefighters worked aggressively for nearly 40 minutes to control the fire from the home’s exterior, the structure was deemed a total loss.

“A female occupant of the home was cooking french fries and left a pan of grease unattended for a few minutes,” according to a report from the Gwinnett County Department of Fire and Emergency Services. “The woman heard a popping sound and discovered the kitchen ablaze.  She met the first-arriving police officers on the carport and was already outside safe when the fire department arrived.”
