Gas Leak on Five Forks Trickum Shuts Road; No Injuries

Five Forks Trickum between Killian Hill and Tom Smith was closed Thursday night because of a gas leak.

The Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services Department issued the following release about Thursday's gas leak at Five Forks Trickum and Tom Smith roads:

Firefighters responded to a report of a gas leak at the above location.

Crews found a 3 to 4 inch gas main leaking outside a bank under construction on arrival. Construction crews were setting up to pour a concrete foundation  for the business sign when the gas main was struck. When Fire crews arrived, they quickly set up a safety perimeter and called for additional units to monitor the gas levels throughout the area.

The incident occurred approximately 200 feet from the Sunrise Assisted Living Center. None of the residents were in danger  at any time during the incident. Firefighters and Hazardous Material Technicians  monitored  the air quality while crews from the gas utilities worked to contain the leak.

Both Five Forks Trickum Road and Tom Smith Road where shut down for approximately 3 & ½ hours while the incident was mitigated.

There were no injuries and all units have returned back to service

EQUIPMENT AT THE SCENE INCLUDED: 2 Engines, 1 Squad Unit, 1 Haz-Mat Team/ Unit, 1 Battalion Chief,  and The Fire Chief.
