Georgia State Patrol reported that a Gwinnett County Sheriff's Deputy vehicle was involved in a wreck at 1:20 a.m. this morning on Georgia Highway 81 at Double Springs Road in Walton County.
According to the trooper, a Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department vehicle ran off the road, struck an embankment and overturned several times. In a press release, GSP reported that nobody was around the vehicle when first responders arrived.
They later located the driver, a Gwinnett County Sheriff's deputy, at his residence. He had minor injuries. A female passenger was found walking near the crash scene.
Police charged the driver, Robert Christopher Matt, 27,of Bethlehem, with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident, failing to maintain lane and open container. He was taken to Walton County Jail.
Emergency workers took the passenger in the vehicle, Katie Lynn, 27, of Lawrenceville, to Gwinnett Medical for treatment of injuries.
