'Incendiary Substance' Detected at GYN-OB Fire

FBI investigate Lilburn fire, and another in Marietta, as possible arsons.

Sunday's early morning fire at a Lilburn gynecology/obstetrics office, and another similar fire Wednesday in Marietta, could be the work of arsonists, FBI officials said Wednesday night.

According to a report by the Gwinnett Daily Post, citing a press release, FBI Atlanta investigators said "an incendiary substance" was detected by a K-9 at Atlanta GYN-OB on Pleasant Hill Road, where the , according to Gwinnett Fire officials. Lab tests are pending.

On Wednesday, a fire was reported at the Alpha Group GYN in Marietta, also believed by the FBI to be possible arson.

Nobody was injured in either fire.

FBI agents are looking for a man who was spotted near the scene as a potential witness in connection with the Marietta fire.

An Atlanta Journal-Constitution article published Wednesday on concerns by metro Atlanta OB-GYNs about recent burglaries and fires at their offices said burglars stole a laptop computer from the Lilburn office on Jan. 26. In March, . Those laptops stolen in Suwanee contained GOGS membership information.

In the AJC story, doctors worried that such crimes may be retaliations for their opposition of abortion legislation that was signed by Gov. Nathan Deal last month.

Gwinnett Police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith told the AJC that investigators from several agencies are looking into possible connections between the alleged crimes.
