Unlicensed driver takes illegal lesson in Acura

On June 21 at about 5:00 p.m. Lilburn Police noted a black Acura without a proper tag - just a piece of cardborad noting that tag had been applied for. An officer stopped the car on Hillcrest Road and asked for the driver's license of the the 17-year old woman who was driving.

The woman told the officer that she didn't have it with her. Upon further inquiry, it was discovered that the woman had never obtained a license.

The officer then turned to the other occupant of the car and ask about the ownership of the car. The passenger told the officer that he owned the vehicle and handed over property licenses. He stated that he had bought the car at 10:00 a.m. that morning. When asked for proof of insurance, the owner admitted he had not yet purchased any.

When asked if he knew the woman did not have a license, the owner of hte car said that he was aware of that fact, but he was teaching her how to drive - since they were only traveling a short distance.

The officer ran a check and found that the owner had no active policy on any of his vehicles.

The owner was issued two citations- Allowing another to violate state law (on the license charge) and no proof of insurance.
