Inside Police Reports: The Rappers Did It

These guys claimed the drugs and paraphernalia were left in the car by rappers.

Gwinnett County Police Department's check point on Rockbridge Road at Vivid Drive in the evening hours on July 4th seemed to be troublesome to a couple of men who saw the flashing lights and made an improper turn around to avoid the officers.

They were pulled over right away by officers in a patrol car for the improper turn, as well as failing to maintain their lane as they travelled back down Rockbridge. One officer approached the passenger noticing a "strong odor of raw (unburnt) marijuana coming from inside the vehicle." The officer also saw a clear plastic bag containing green leafy material (GLM) on the center console.

The other officer approached the driver and asked where they had been and was told that the two men had a recording studio and they had just "finished a show featuring a couple of rap artists." This officer also noted the strong odor of raw marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, so he asked the driver if there was any in the car or on their person. The driver said "no."

The officer asked, "Why do we smell marijuana?"

The driver then said "I'll be honest with you, the rappers were in here earlier and had smoked."

Officers were given permission to search "anywhere [they] wanted" by the driver.

As the driver exited the vehicle, a digital silver scale fell from his lap onto the pavement, though the gentleman said it wasn't his. It "must have been left in the car by the rappers."

The search yielded the bag of GLM on the console as well as more from other locations in the car which were put into evidence. Also found was a cell phone - to which neither occupant claimed ownership -  having texts suggesting drug sales.

Based on the recovery of GLM totaling approximately 7.5 grams, the scale and the phone, the men were arrested for possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

The driver was also cited for the improper left turn and failure to maintain lane.
