Inside Police Reports: Was It Worth The Arrest?

No matter the estimated value of the evidence, burglary is burglary.

On Friday, June 29th around 11:00 a.m., Lilburn Police were notified of a possible break in by a concerned citizen (C.S.) who was able to identify the two men who had entered an apartment through a shattered window.

Two officer responded in separate unmarked police vehicles, turning off lights and sirens as they approached the scene. Two men matching the description reported by the C.S. were noticed walking down the street; one was known by the police as someone who had been involved in past criminal activities.

Both officers stopped and asked the men to place their hands on the hood of hte vehicle; neither was initially placed in handcuffs. Upon questioning, they admitted to be next door to the address that had been involved in the burglary, but denied having any involvement.

While one of the officers questioned the men, another did a search of the area and found a coin jar shaped like a brown cow with antlers. During a search warrant served earlier in the day at THAT SAME ADDRESS, photos of that coin jar were taken by LPD as evidence during that search.

The men were questioned separately by police. While both admitted to being in the residence, both claimed that the other had taken the coin jar which contained 204 pennies ...  $2.04. Each also made a statement that the other had thrown or dropped the bank into the bushes where officers found it. Nothing else was reported as taken from the address.

Arrest warrants for burglary were secured for both men who were transported to Gwinnett Detention Center.
