Inside Police Reports: What Does GLM Mean?

A police incident report can contain plenty of interesting facts. And it’s not just about the actions of alleged criminals. It can be on how officers complete their work, which includes how a report is constructed in the first place.

In a recent report from the Gwinnett County Police Department, the reporting officer used what is a common police acronym GLM in the narrative about the arrest of a Lilburn woman and a male passenger in her car for possession of less than one ounce of marijuana.

It was the “Green Leafy Material” found in the center console of the woman’s car that led to the arrest.

“I field-tested the GLM and the GLM tested positive for (THC) marijuana,” Officer J.M. Sirko wrote in the incident report. “I also located grinders, a scale and several glass pipes that are commonly used in the use and distribution of narcotics.”

The incident happened on May 3 in the 4700 block of Cedar Woods Drive, where the officer responded to a suspicious vehicle report. The officer wrote in the report that a red car pulled up to him while he was in the street, and he quickly smelled the odor of burnt pot. The woman and her passenger said they had smoked some earlier, but that they didn’t have any more weed.

A search of the vehicle uncovered the GLM and paraphernalia and resulted in the arrests and the impoundment of the vehicle.
