Inside the Police Reports

Lilburn Patch takes a closer look at some crimes that have happened in town.

Each week, Lilburn Patch will take a deeper look into recent crime reports in Lilburn, this week reported by the Gwinnett Police Department.

-Not a memorable Super Bowl: A 28-year-old man checked into Gwinnett Medical Center after noticing a pool of blood around his head and acknowledging head pain and hearing loss when he woke up the morning after the Super Bowl this month. His mother, who was at the hospital, told police that she didn't know much about what happened except for the fact that he had gone to a house party for the big game the night before. He told his mom that he couldn't remember what happened, either.

Police were able to speak with the mother's daughter (the victim's sister) since she made a few phone calls to people who had attended the party. According to what she told police, a man punched the victim on the back of the head after he made a comment about the man's girlfriend. The sister told police that her brother was knocked out by the blow and laid unconscious for several hours at the party. When he finally woke up, he called the homeowner and she drove him to the hospital.

The sister stated that the homeowner, the man and his girlfriend all work at the same place in Lawrenceville, and she was able to supply police with only their first names. There are no clear offenders at this moment.

According to the victim's mother, doctors told her that he suffered a small skull fracture and a slight bleed on the brain, so they scheduled him for surgery the next day. The doctors deemed that he didn't suffer from anything life-threatening, but it's uncertain if his hearing loss was permanent or temporary.

-Pawn shop blunders: A man was arrested Feb. 8 on the charge of "theft by deception" when he tried selling stolen items to a pawn shop located on the 4200 block of Lawrenceville Highway. He received $223 in cash for the stolen items, but he never returned for them.

-A not-so-worthwhile robbery: Gwinnett Police responded to a burglar alarm that went off at a business on the 5400 block of Lilburn-Stone Mountain Road late last month. The complainant said she noticed a cabinet in the front office was open, and upon further investigation, a "petty box" containing about $20 to $30 was stolen from the cabinet along with a set of keys to an adjacent business. Nothing else was recorded as stolen or disturbed in the area aside from those items, even though there were several laptop computers in the room. The complainant noted a camera is located above the cabinet, but she said that it probably doesn't work.
