Crime & Safety

Inside the Police Reports

Stolen iPod Accessories, Prostitution and CO2 Machines.

Each week, Lilburn Patch takes a deeper look into recent crime reports from the Gwinnett and Lilburn police departments.

No More Happy Endings for You: A vice investigator for Gwinnett PD conducted a compliance check at Global Spa on the 4800 block of Lawrenceville Highway two weeks ago. While the investigator was receiving a massage, the 57-year-old masseuse offered to perform a sexual act for $140.  The investigator haggled the service to $100, to which she complied, and he paid her the funds. He signaled other officers and the suspect was arrested. It turned out the masseuse wasn't an actual registered massage therapist in Georgia, and she was taken to Gwinnett County Jail for prostitution.

All for a measly $36.76?: A 17-year-old Berkmar student decided to shoplift the Lilburn Walmart earlier this month for some Apple products. The complaintant (also the witness) said he saw the male student remove an iPod case and an iPod protection cleaning kit from their packages while in the store, and he hid them inside the pockets of his pants. Walking straight past the checkout lines, the witness stopped the suspect and confronted him about what he saw. The suspect was placed under arrest by Lilburn Police for theft by shoplifting. The stolen items, an iPod case valued at $19.88 and the iPod cleaning kit for $16.88, were given back to Walmart.

Dirty Business: One evening last week, a woman living on Lions Club Drive off Harmony Grove Road said she came home to mounds of dirt in her backyard. The complaintant, 41, also told Gwinnett Police that her brick patio was cracked from whomever dropped off the dirt. According to the report, she said her neighbor came by later and explained that he would pay for the damage since the dirt delivery was meant for his yard, not hers. The woman said she didn't know the neighbor's name nor the dirt company's name, and police informed her that this was a civil issue, so no criminal charges were made. Police have filed the incident as criminal trespassing.

Stolen Machinery: Earlier this month, an employee at a Subway on Rockbridge Road called police to report a theft of the restaurant's carbon dioxide tank. The employee received a call at 1 p.m. stating that the Subway's beverage fountain wasn't working properly, so when the employee went to check on the business, she noticed the CO2 tank, which is used to operate the soda machine, was missing. She informed police that the business closed the night prior at 10:30 p.m. and nothing was wrong with the soda machine then. Lilburn Police are attempting to obtain information from a security guard who may have been in the area the previous night
