Inside the Police Reports

Burglaries line up the in-depth reports this week.

Each week, Lilburn Patch takes a deeper look into recent crime reports from the Gwinnett and Lilburn police departments

All Neighborhoods Should Have a Lookout Like Them: A married couple near Lake Lucerne Road called police one April afternoon to report a burglary that had just occurred at their neighbor's house. The couple, 28 and 33, said they witnessed two men standing near the back of their house while holding a clothes basket with several electronic devices in it. When the couple tried confronting them, the two men hopped into a silver car and sped off, leaving the basket on the street.

From the basket, police were able to recover an HP printer, keyboard, mouse, powercord and monitor, along with a PlayStation 2 with two controllers, a powercord and charger. An unknown device's adaptor was also found. After police observed the houses in the area, only one house was determined as being ransacked. The report says the suspects broke a window to create the point of forced entry.

The 39-year-old homeowner, who arrived after the burglary occurred, said she has no idea who could have broken into her home.

Don't Rob a Place That You Frequent, Especially if You're a Smoker: After a convenience store bordering Stone Mountain and Lilburn city limits was broken into late one April evening, an employee told Gwinnett police he knows the suspect who committed the crime, even though he doesn't know the man personally or have video of the crime occuring. The employee found an unopened pack of Camel Turkish Royal cigarettes with dried blood on it (broken glass and blood were found in other parts of the store, too) and immediately said that there's only one person who regularly comes into the store to buy that particular brand of smokes. He described the man as very skinny, which police said could fit the description of the suspect since the anti-burglary bars (which also had blood on it) on the window are small. The employee was also able to describe the uniqueness of the man's pickup, which was gold with a maroon roof and a blue hood.

The man hasn't been located yet, but police were able to take samples of the blood found on the various areas of the store. The suspect left the store with a pack of Newport cigarettes, $60 worth of the Camel Turkish Royal cigarettes, 500 lottery tickets worth $1,000 and $300 in cash. Nothing more is known at this time.

Breaking and Entering, But Nothing Stolen? The owner of a cabinetry store on Rockbridge Road called Lilburn police one April morning to report that someone had broken into his business the night before. Police immediately noticed the glass missing in the front door, but police and the owner didn't notice anything that was stolen. The owner told police that there is no working surveillance camera in the store, and no alarm went off that morning when the glass was smashed.
