Inside the Police Reports

BB guns, car vandalism and another case of copper theft.

Each week, Lilburn Patch takes a deeper look into recent crime reports in Lilburn, this week reported by the Gwinnett County Police Department.

BB Guns: A 13-year-old spoke reported that some kids were shooting BB guns while he was playing soccer with his friends. Kicking the ball around 8 p.m. Jan. 19 near the tennis courts at Westbury Springs Apartments, located at 4853 Burns Road, the boy allegedly heard about four shots from a BB gun. He told police that one shot hit the side of his head, causing a red mark.

He and his friends then moved to the playground below the tennis court in hopes that the shooting would stop. About 10 to 15 minutes later, however, they heard 10 to 12 more shots. Another female in the group had been hit, said the boy, but she was not with them when police arrived. He's unsure if she was injured.

The victim said he heard someone talking near an apartment building after the second set of shots and saw two males in front. Officers conducted an area check of possible suspects with a BB gun but did not find anyone.

Photographs were taken of the boy's injury, and police advised him to call if he noticed anyone shooting BB guns at people again.

Those Copper Wire Thieves: A listing agent for a home on the 600 block of Dorsey Circle near Killian Hill Road called police to report some stolen copper tubing. According to the report, the suspect(s) had bent the lock on a crawlspace door to get to the copper. Three spaces of copper tubing were missing, with each space about 15 feet long. The report lists that the crime could have occurred anytime between noon Jan. 23 and 3 p.m. Jan. 24.

Car Vandalism: Around 8 p.m. on Jan. 22, an officer was patrolling the Columns at Paxton Lane Apartments near Highway 78 when he noticed a vandalized black Acura Integra. The car had three slashed tires and inappropriate language spray-painted on it. When the officer contacted the victim, 18, he said he first noticed the damage late that morning. The damage may have occurred overnight since his friend had left his apartment at 12:30 a.m. and did not notice any damage. No witnesses were located and no suspects are listed in the report.
