Inside the Police Reports: Fraud, Old Baggage and 'Good Guy'

Lilburn Patch takes a closer look at some crimes that have happened in town.

Each week, Lilburn Patch takes a deeper look into recent crime reports from the Gwinnett and Lilburn police departments.

On-and-Off Baggage: Last week, a domestic disturbance was called in by a 22-year-old  woman who had locked herself in the bathroom. She told Gwinnett PD that she had gotten into an altercation with her on-and-off boyfriend when she arrived home late that evening. The young woman told her boyfriend that he could keep a few small items at her Lilburn home since he was in the middle of moving, but he put multiple items in her garage and she found him sleeping on the couch.

She woke him up, angering him, and tried to pull him by the arm toward the door. He started to "chest bump" her over and over again, which eventually caused her to fall to the floor. He then opened a small pocket knife that had been in his pocket, but the victim said he never made any notion that he was going to use it on her. She told police that he never said a word during this altercation, and she never felt threatened of the knife. After falling and seeing the knife, she grabbed her phone and locked herself in the bathroom.

Her sometimes-boyfriend ran before police arrived. Police attempted to find him, and they also tried to call him via phone, but no luck so far.

'Good Guys' Don't Drink and Drive: A Lilburn resident called police to tell them that a suspicious vehicle was parked outside his house, located near Five Forks Trickum Road, and someone was sitting inside it. Gwinnett PD arrived at the scene and spoke with the driver, a 33-year-old Alpharetta man. He told police that he was listening to music and that his friend lived inside the home. After sensing a strong alcohol odor, the officer asked how much the driver had been drinking, and he said that he had three drinks of scotch at a friend's house down the street. He told police that he didn't want to drive back to his house in Alpharetta, so he drove to another friend's house, where he was parked. Many times the driver kept apologizing and repeating that he was a "good guy," according to the police report.

The homeowner told police that the "friend" that the driver was talking about was his son, and since it was after 4:30 a.m., he didn't want to wake his son up. He made it clear to police that he did not want the driver there.

The driver agreed to field sobriety tests, which did not go well for him, and he was placed under arrest for DUI. The homeowner said the driver could leave his car in front of his house as police took the driver to the Gwinnett County Jail so that officers could evaluate his alcohol intake. His breath test results were 0.143 and 0.153, and his BAC was recorded as a 0.08 grams.

Credit Card Fraud Could Happen to Anyone: Earlier this month, a young man claimed to have his Publix Credit Union debit card used by an unathorized person, even though he has been in possession of his card. Between the dates of March 25 and March 31, the victim told Gwinnett PD that someone had charged his card three times, with a combined fraud amount of $60. Nothing further is available at this time.
