Inside the Police Reports: Quarrel over Burger, ID Fraud and Other Cases

Lilburn Patch takes a closer look at some crimes that have happened in town.

Each week, Lilburn Patch will take a deeper look into recent crime reports in Lilburn, this week reported by both the Gwinnett Police Department and the Lilburn Police Department.

-A Lover's Hamburger Quarrel: On Feb. 20, a 55-year-old woman called the Gwinnett PD from the hospital to report that she had been hit in the face by her 36-year-old lover. She told police that four days prior, he had made hamburgers for dinner, and when inebriated, the man became "enraged" when she had told him that he couldn't have her burger. An argument ensued, followed by a fist to the side of her face and another blow to the back of her head a moment later. She grabbed his private parts to try to stop further abuse, and he left to stay at a friend's house. A few days later, the victim noticed an abscess growing on the side of her right elbow (she had been knocked to ground by the first blow), so she went to the hospital. Police were seeking to obtain a warrant for battery against her lover.

-An Unsuccessful Burglary, Round Two: A woman notified Gwinnett PD on Feb. 22 that someone had attempted to burglarize her house earlier that evening. As she and her daughter attempted to sleep, they heard someone knocking at the door. She saw an Hispanic male at the door, and she noted to police that this was the same male that was at her residence 20 days earlier. The suspect stopped knocking and the woman thought that he had left, but that turned out to be false when she noticed him trying to get in through her back patio door. She scared him off, and he started running toward the main road. She also noticed another hispanic male catching up with him, whom she noted was also at her house 20 days earlier, too. When police arrived, they observed that one of the suspects had actually entered the house by breaking through the basement window. The suspect tried to get onto the main floor through there, but the victim informed police that the basement's door to the main floor wasn't accessible at the time. The only damage done to the home was to the window and a lock on a screen door.

-Identity Fraud Could Happen to Anyone: A woman spoke with Lilburn PD on Feb. 16 saying that she's been a victim of identity fraud. After filing her taxes with a tax company in Tucker earlier that month, she said that the tax service informed her that someone had already filed a tax return in her name, notified by the IRS. She then contacted the IRS, which confirmed that someone had used her information to file, and she also inquired the Georgia Department of Revenue, but they informed her that they had blocked the filing. She filed an investigation with the IRS fraud department, and Lilburn PD discussed changing her social security number and checking her other credit accounts for other fraudulent activity.

-Misunderstood Hug? Lilburn Police received a notice of a domestic dispute between a man and his uncle Feb. 18. The man was going to confront his uncle about a claim from his daughter saying that the uncle had molested the juvenile.

According to the uncle, he had been fishing earlier that day with his friend and made "brief contact" with his nephew's daughter. He said the only reason he thinks his nephew would be mad at him is because of something he may have said.

According to the juvenile, she saw the uncle by a pond behind Camp Creek Road earlier that day and decided to make contact with him since she hadn't seen him in a while. She hugged him, but felt uncomfortable when he put force into the hug, according to the police report. They talked for about 10-15 minutes, and the daughter told police that he kept looking up and down her body and remarked how great she looked and smelled. The juvenile told police that as she prepared to leave,  the relative initiated a hug with too much force and tried to kiss her on the neck, collarbone and cheek. She said she was able to back away, but that he grabbed her rear end before she ran away from the pond.

After further questioning the uncle and re-interviewing the daughter, the investigator determined the case as unfounded and no child molestation crime actually occurred. No charges will be filed.
