Inside the Police Reports: Shot By BB Gun, Rape Investigation and Title Forgery

Lilburn Patch takes a closer look at some crimes that have happened in town.

Each week, Lilburn Patch takes a deeper look into recent crime reports from the Gwinnett and Lilburn police departments.

You'll Shoot You're Eye Out, Kid: Around 8 p.m. on March 22, Lilburn dispatch advised police that it received a phone call about a man being shot in the abdomen with a BB gun by someone in a red Dodge Durango on Lawrenceville Highway. The victim, who made the call, jumped in his car and followed the Durango until police caught up at the intersection of Shady and Freeman drives, near Burns and Beaver Ruin roads.

By gunpoint, Lilburn police ordered the four suspects out of the Durango and handcuffed them. After recovering a BB gun and ammo in the vehicle, police spoke with the victim about what happened. He told police he was working on some construction in front of Affordable Dental on the 3900 block of Lawrenceville Highway when the Durango rolled up and the front passenger window was open. He heard two or three "pops" and felt a sharp pain on the left side of his abdomen. After showing police a swollen red welt, a few of the victim's co-workers showed up and told police they had heard the "pops," too.

Police received written statements and questioned the four suspects in the Durango. The suspects, three teenagers with one other juvenile, had conflicting stories. The driver and a passenger said the gun belonged to and was shot by another passenger. The blamed passenger originally told police that he was unaware a BB gun was inside the car, but when this accusation came up, he accused the youngest passenger of firing the gun. This conflicting statement contributed to his arrest for aggravated assault, the only arrest Lilburn police made of the four boys.

Rape investigation: Gwinnett Police are investigating an alleged rape of a teenage girl sometime after a March 20 party. The teenager spoke to police via cell phone about the incident. She said her friend was hosting a small party at his apartment near Harbins Road and Lawrenceville Highway, where alcoholic beverages were imbibed. She fell asleep around 2 a.m. in a bedroom. She told police that she was raped by a 20-year-old man at the party between 2 a.m. and 10 a.m.  After speaking with her on the phone, police went to her home and observed five small bruises on her left arm near her wrist. Following the officer, the victim and her friend drove to the Gwinnett Sexual Assault Center to meet a detective. An SVU investigator was also contacted. The investigation is ongoing. No arrests or charges have been made.

All in the Family: On March 10, a 25-year-old man reported that his brother stole his white Ford F-150 last August. The man told police that his mother had purchased the car, put it in his name and kept the title in her possession for him. One day in August, he became intoxicated and hit his mother several times. He was arrested and went to jail on battery charges. Soon after, his brother went to visit his mother and asked if he could buy the truck from her. He gave her $100 and she gave him the title, but since the owner was incarcerated, he said he never signed the title over to his brother. When his brother was questioned, he said that the title had already been signed. Police looked at the signature, which was dated the exact same day as the first brother's incarceration for battery.  He said his brother must have forged his signature on the title. The second brother was charged with forgery in the first degree.
