Lawrenceville Man Arrested After SWAT Call

After receiving a call for a domestic dispute, Gwinnett County Police arrived at a home on Martins Drive in Lawrenceville at 6:37 Tuesday morning. The victim told officers she had been assaulted by her husband, 29 year old Antonio Genez. She and her 1 year old daughter were out of the home by the time GCPD arrived on the scene. The woman was taken to a local hospital and released a short time later.

Warrants for Genez were obtained for aggravated assault, battery, false imprisonment, and cruelty to children in the 3rd degree. According to Cpl. Jake Smith of GCPD, officers talked to Genez, but he refused to leave his home. He then barricaded himself inside.

Police did not know whether Genez had any guns or other weapons inside so they called for a SWAT team at 8:50am. Cruse Road was then shut down from Club Dr. to James Rd.

Although Sweetwater Middle School was less than a mile away from the scene, "Sweetwater Middle School is far enough away that there was no concern there."

At around 10:45am, SWAT teams launched cans of pepper spray into Genez's home in an effort to force him out. He surrendered and taken into custody less than a half hour later at 11:11am without incident. Genez is currently being held in the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond.

Cruse road re-opened to traffic at around 11:30am.
