Lilburn House Fire Caused By Lightning

Fire on Chesapeake Drive was one of four house fires reported in Gwinnett during Monday's thunderstorms.

A lightning strike during Monday's late afternoon thunderstorms resulted in a house fire in the 1300 block of Chesapeake Drive in Lilburn.

spokesman Eric Eberly said the blaze, one of four house fires reported in the county during the storms, caused moderate damage to the two-story wood frame house. Firefighters responded to the fire just before 6 p.m. Monday.

The family was at home at the time of the fire, but no injuries were reported. The family was not displaced.

Firefighters reported moderate damage in the attic and minor damage in the living area.

Eberly said that the storms kept crews busy from around 6 to 9:30 p.m. Monday. He listed three of the four house fires as being "significant," including the Lilburn fire. Fire units were dispatched to four house fires, two apartment fires, two grass fires, 11 auto accidents with injuries and 25 calls for medical assistance.
