Update: Lilburn Middle Goes Under Lockdown

A drug search warrant at a nearby business prompted the school to go under lockdown Wednesday.

Update, Friday, 1:04 p.m.: Lilburn Middle School was under lockdown Wednesday afternoon after Lilburn police started searching a nearby business on a drug search warrant.

Officers were conducting the drug search on Voung's Automotive, located at 5034 Lawrenceville Highway, according to Lilburn PD spokesman Captain Ben Haynes. Gwinnett County Public Schools spokesman Jorge Quintana said officers advised the school to go into lockdown after 2 p.m.

"Just as a precautionary measure," said Haynes. "We asked them to go into their lockdown practice until we could secure the business." Quintana said the school was under lockdown for about 40 minutes until it was lifted around 3 p.m.
