Drug Drop Off Box Available at Lilburn Police Department

Residents can now safely dispose of expired and unwanted prescription and over-the-counter drugs at the city police department.

Residents now can throw away some of their medicinal trash at the Lilburn Police Department's Drug Drop Box.

The Drug Drop Box allows locals to dispose of prescription and over-the-counter drugs that are expired or unneeded. It's what the city is referring to as a "Big White Box" in the lobby.

The launch of Operation Drug Drop Off is the Council on Alcohol and Drugs' response to the growing demand for a safe and convenient way to get rid of household drugs.

"Rx drug abuse among all age groups is currently being reported by law enforcement agencies across the state and country as a real and growing danger," according to a news release. "In addition, unsafe disposal of Rx and OTC medications is costly to our environment and, therefore, to our health."

The campaign aims to keep drugs out of the hands of teens and children, off the street, prevent overdoses and accidental poisonings, and avoid environmental contamination.
