Loganville Mother and Son Face Drug, Weapons Charges

A Loganville mother and son were arrested Monday and charged with several drug related crimes as well as for being in possession of weapons during a crime.

Cindy Marie Smith and her son, William Shane Smith, were arrested Monday at their home in Gwinnett Estates Mobile Home Park after a Gwinnett County police officer on a routine patrol allegedly detected the smell of raw marijuana.

According to the incident report, the Gwinnett County police officer approached the trailer from where the smell of raw marijuana was emanating and asked Cindy Marie Smith if there was raw marijuana in the trailer. She reportedly denied it and tried to close the door. The officer was eventually able to persuade her to let him in and consent to a search.

During the search, a large ziplock bag allegedly containing 10 smaller bags containing a green leafy substance thought to be marijuana were located. A gun also was found. It reportedly turned out to be stolen out of Las Vegas, Nev. Smith claimed that her son was not involved in the distribution of the marijuana and that she was selling it because she was unable to earn enough money any other way.

William Shane Smith reportedly said he had no idea his mother was selling marijuana, but he did have marijuana,  just “enough for one joint.” in his cigarette box. Xanax pills and a loaded semiautomatic handgun were allegedly located in his room. Both mother and son were arrested.

Cindy Marie Smith was charged with violating the Georgia Controlled Substance Act – possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a weapon during a crime and theft by receiving. Her son is charged with VGCSA of a controlled substance, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and possession of a weapon during a crime. Cindy Marie Smith bonded out the same day on a $7,200 security bond. Her son remained in Gwinnett County Detention Center on Wednesday with a $6,100 bond pending.

Can you really smell raw marijuana eminating from inside a residence that is at least 30-50 feet away from the car you're traveling in?

Well, I don't smell the marijuana, but the stench of a RAT is emanating from this story.
