Man Threatens with Machete After Altercation

Inside the Police Reports: A DirecTV employee pulls out a machete after getting into an argument with a man working for an apartment complex.

A man pulled out a machete after an altercation about a television dish last week.

According to the Lilburn police report, the 53-year-old DirecTV employee went to the Villas at Indian Trail at 50 Stoneview Trail to install a system on a resident's deck.

When an apartment complex employee tried to tell the man, who's also a Lilburn resident, where he needed to place the dish, he became very "irate, cursing and yelling" at the employee, says the report.

The angry man continued to work, and the complex's employee decided to tend to the front of the complex.

About 15 minutes after the altercation, the employee saw the suspect drive up to him in his van. The employee said that the man, shouting and cursing, got out of his vehicle with a machete and raised it over his head as if to strike him.

Another employee of the apartment complex saw this happen and stepped in front of the suspect to try to stop him.

According to what the suspect told police later, he admitted to only having the machete for self-defense and didn't threaten either party with it. He claimed he never raised it, and the the two victims had "tried to attack him," says the police report.

He left the Villas to take the machete back to his business office on the 1300 block of Oakbrook Parkway, because he knew police were coming. He told one officer he hid it behind a dumpster and another that it was behind a box, but police were not able to find the machete.

He returned to the Villas while officers were still there and was arrested without any further incidents. He is being charged with aggravated assault.
