Police Find 100 pounds of Pot in Monday Bust

South Carolina man arrested and charged after traffic stop

Gwinnett Police have arrested a South Carolina man after a Monday traffic stop uncovered approximately 100 pounds of marijuana.

According to a media release issued Thursday afternoon, Tyrone Alexander, 33, of Greenville, S.C., was charged with trafficking in marijuana, providing false documents and driving on a suspended license. Alexander is being held at the Gwinnett County Jail without bond.

Police say Alexander was pulled over on I-85 near Hamilton Hill Road in unincorporated Buford for a tag light violation around 10:30 p.m. Monday night. According to the media release, Alexander gave police an inconsistent story about where he was headed, and provided a false driver’s license.

The officer found probable cause to search the vehicle with a trained narcotics K-9 unit. The K-9 search indicated an odor of drugs. Police found two black trash bags containing five bricks of marijuana in the trunk. The drugs were seized and placed into evidence.
