Police Find Body in Lake Lucerne

Police have identified the deceased as the driver sought in a recent hit-and-run incident with a patrol car.

A resident on Lake Lucerne found the body Friday and called police about 1:30 p.m., Corporal Jake Smith of the GCPD said.

Police had searched the lake for days earlier this month, looking for Javon Depass, 25. Police say Depass was driving a car that hit a Gwinnett County police car on Highway 78 just after midnight on Jan. 8. He then drove off, turning onto a road that ran alongside the lake. After driving into a utility pole, Depass abandoned his car and continued on foot. Police dogs traced his scent to a pier on the lake.
