Updated 12 p.m., Oct. 17: A body found Tuesday evening in unincorporated Lawrenceville has been identified as that of Rashad Jones, 22, of Lawrenceville.
In a Wednesday morning press release, police said: "Homicide investigators interviewed several people and potential suspects and have learned that the motive behind this may be some type of rip off involving a scam. None of the suspects or victim lives in the neighborhood where the shooting took place."
Gwinnett County police are investigating an "apparent homicide," in a neighborhood near Lilburn.
The body of a black male, possibly in his teens, was discovered in the area of Bridge Walk Drive and Oak Road in Lawrenceville.
Police initially responded to the area at 8:40 p.m. regarding "shots fired" call, according to a Tuesday evening press statement from Gwinnett police. When officers checked the area, that's when they discovered the body near some tennis courts.
It was unclear from the police statement where those tennis courts are located.
Police said the identity of the man is unknown at this time. However, investigators are interviewing witnesses, continuing to canvass the area and collecting evidence.
The Gwinnett County Police Department Homicide Unit is currently the lead investigators.
