Police Teamwork Leads to Arrest

PDs from Dunwoody, Gwinnett, Sandy Springs and Lilburn work together to identify Edward Wardell Underwood, 45, the suspect in arrmed robbery of CVS customer.

Police have arrested a 45-year-old man who allegedly used a handgun in robbing a person at CVS Pharmacy on the evening of May 25.

Edward Wardell Underwood, who is the suspect in the crime, was arrested in Gwinnett County for similar crimes. Dunwoody Police worked with three other departments to identify him as a suspect in a string of similar crimes.

Police say the robber entered CVS at 1610 Mt. Vernon Road around 6:30 p.m. on May 25 and walked up to a person sitting at the photo counter inside the store. He showed the victim a black handgun and snatched the victim's purse.

Similar crimes occurred earlier that day in both Gwinnett County and in Sandy Springs. Police in Dunwoody, Gwinnett County, Lilburn and Sandy Springs worked collaboratively to identify Underwood and took him into custody without incident.

Wardell is being held in Gwinnett County Detention Center on charges of armed robbery, two charges of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a weapon during a crime. According to the Gwinnett County Detention Center, he's also being held for charges in DeKalb and Fulton counties.
