Pregnant Woman Beaten at Sonic

Inside the Police Reports: A young woman was reportedly battered at Sonic last week by the father of her unborn baby.

A young man was seen repeatedly beating the mother of his unborn baby while at Sonic in Lilburn last week.

According to the Gwinnett police report, witnesses called authorities Aug. 21 around noon after seeing the man, 22, punching the woman in the Sonic parking lot, located at 4885 Stone Mountain Highway. The incident took place just a few days before the woman's birthday, making her 19 at that time.

When police arrived at the scene, the man was reported to be still hitting the woman. Police had to taze the offender when he wouldn't respond to their orders to stop, and he was immediately placed under arrest.

The woman, a Snellville resident, was taken to Eastside Medical Hospital. The report says she had blood on her face, and her nose and mouth appeared to be busted. She was four months pregnant.

According to the victim, the incident started when the man took $100 from her purse. She asked for the money back, and according to her statement in the report, he took a gun from the center console, using it to hit her head. Police found a high-point firearms .40 Caliber semi-automatic pistol in his car, in addition to blood on the center console and the driver's seatbelt connector.

The suspect then allegedly started hitting her with his hands, pulled into the Sonic parking lot, and continued to hit, shove and push her.

He got out of the vehicle for two minutes, came back and attempted to push her out of the vehicle, according to the report, and walked to her side of the car to start hitting her again. It was then that police showed up.

The suspect, who lives in Lithonia, kept saying that he was only "trying to get her out of my car," and he did not admit to hitting the victim, the report says.

When officers asked him what happened, he said he was giving his ex-girlfriend a ride to work when they got into a verbal argument. He pulled into Sonic and simply told her to get out of the car. He claimed he never hit her.

When officers said they saw him beating her in the parking lot, he said, "Well, I don't know what you saw, but I just wanted her out of my car."

The man was taken to Gwinnett County Jail for charges of battery, aggravated assault, obstruction of a police officer and obstructing a 911 call.
