Reports of Kidnapping, Attempted Armed Robbery Linked

Inside the Police Reports: Gwinnett received a report of a kidnapping that is cross-referenced to a report on an attempted armed robbery in Lilburn.

Reports from Lilburn Police and Gwinnett Police involving an alleged kidnapping, gun shots and attempted robbery, seem to overlap and may have involved the same people on Highway 29.

The Lilburn police report states that a 28-year-old Lilburn male called police late in the evening on June 21 regarding an attempted armed robbery. The police met the victim at the Chick-Fil-A on Highway 29, where he told them that he was at an apartment complex off Club Parkway with a female.

According to the report, he said that the female had set him up for a robbery and some guys shot at his SUV, a blue 2001 Chevrolet Suburban.

He told police that a female was standing outside his vehicle and "giving signs" when a male came around, demanding for him to get out of the vehicle. He fled, driving around the apartment complex before getting on the main road.

The man said that while he was at the intersection of Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Lawrenceville Highway, he noticed a vehicle following him. He told police that once he was on Highway 29 around Pike Nursery, he heard popping noises that he said was from the occupants in the vehicle. He ducked and took out his 9mm pistol, but he said he never shot it.

Police spoke with witnesses, who all said that a dark-colored SUV was at the light at the intersection of Highway 29 and Rockbridge Road and a taxi van was in front of it. They also said that no cars were behind the victim, which contradicts the victim's story. They heard six gunshots, and the two cars also sat through a complete traffic light cycle.

An employee from the Citgo at the intersection later told police a similar story, except that the cars were stopped in the intersection. He also said that customers that had been pumping gas at the Shell station across the street had run inside the store when they heard the gunshots.

Police observed six bullet holes in the man's SUV. Officers also found his pistol in a holster sitting between the driver's seat and the console. Visible fingerprints were also found on the outside of the front passenger window.

The next day, officers returned to the scene and found all six bullet shell casings around Rockbridge Road, along with shattered glass that appeared to be a match with the SUV.

Gwinnett Police assisted in the incident, and also have a report from a different perspective that cross-references to this one. In the Gwinnett report, which was called in around 12:30 a.m., an 18-year-old female told police that a male had held her at gunpoint at his car after he accused her of setting him up.

The male, who had been calling and texting her after the incident, allegedly told her, "I'm going to switch cars. Y'all done."

She told police that she and her 15-year-old cousin were waiting at the Highland Valley Apartments in Norcross to meet with a guy named Trini. Once in his dark-colored SUV, he told her that they could go back to his "spot" to "chill," but when he found out the cousin's age, he told her she couldn't come and dropped her off down the street in the same complex.

According to the 18-year-old, three black males then allegedly rushed the vehicle. The cousin told police that one of the men had a gun.

The driver then allegedly sped off, put a pistol to her head and said, "You set me up." She asked him what he was talking about and attempted to escape the vehicle. He put on the child locks and tried to close the windows, but she managed to open the passenger door from the outside and escape while still in the apartment complex.

She hid behind a building while he rode around the complex to try to find her, but he left and she went back to her apartment to call police.

The victim told Gwinnett police that Trini is around six feet tall, dark-skinned, and has gold front teeth and the Trinidad flag tattooed on his left arm.

According to the Lilburn police report, the victim is 5 feet and 11 inches and has black hair and brown eyes.

Police weren't able to confirm anything else at this moment.
