Fire caused moderate damage to Retreat at Arc Way apartments in unincorporated Norcross.

Gwinnett Fire is investigating a Friday night fire at an apartment building in unincorporated Norcross that displaced several residents, according to Capt. Tommy Rutledge.

The fire caused moderate damage to three apartments and smoke damage to two others at the Retreat at Arc Way Apartments, located at 4025 Arc Way, just north of Lilburn’s 30047 zip code off of Beaver Ruin Road.

There were no injuries. The exact cause of the fire is undetermined.

When firefighters arrived shortly after 9:30 p.m. Friday, they found flames and smoke coming from behind one of the apartment buildings, Rutledge said.

"The occupants of the building tried to douse the flames from outside with portable fire extinguishers before the fire department arrived," said Rutledge said in a press release. Their attempts were unsuccessful, however. The fire department had the blaze under control shortly after 10 p.m.

The Red Cross was contacted to provide housing assistance for the residents whose apartments were damaged.

Five engines and two ladder trucks were called to battle the fire, said Rutledge.
