Storm Causes Damage Throughout Gwinnett

Firefighters responded to 87 emergencies between 11:30 p.m. Monday and 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.

House fires, trees toppled on homes and downed power lines were reported throughout Gwinnett County on Monday as a result of the storm that rushed through the county.

Firefighters responded to a total of 87 emergencies between 11:30 p.m. Monday and 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge.

No injuries were reported.

Greater Lilburn felt the power of the storm, especially the area between Killian Hill and Rockbridge roads. After the sun came up Tuesday morning, the area was littered with debris, branches and fallen trees.

A Mountain Park resident said the storm came though around 11:30 p.m. The high winds uprooted a large tree that fell on part of his home near Rockbridge Road. The man asked not to be identified, but allowed Lilburn Patch to take photos of the damage.

Gwinnett Fire reported trees fell on houses at the following Lilburn-area addresses: 5341 Miller Road, 185 Killian Hill Road, 1462 Fox Forest Terrace, and 1836 Lake Lucerne Road.

Reports elsewhere in Gwinnett: 153 Gloster Road, Lawrenceville; 5591 Brady Drive, Stone Mountain; 2263 Meadow Drive, Snellville; 3863 Princess Court, Lawrenceville; 264 Windsor Drive, Lawrenceville; 5156 Clearwater Drive, Stone Mountain; 4033 Scenic Mountain Drive, Snellville; 3541 Smoke Rise Way, Lawrenceville; 2555 Lakemeadow Lane, Grayson; 5682 Crestwood Drive, Stone Mountain.

Gwinnett Fire also responded to several calls of downed powerlines in Lilburn, including on Killian Hill Road, south of Five Forks-Trickum Road, where the top of a power pole had been snapped like a twig. Gwinnett Police had the southbound lane closed for most of the day.

Other reports of wires down or trees blocking roadways in Lilburn included Kensington High Street, Blue Springs Court, Ridgewood Drive, Norwood Drive, Riverside Drive, Fairfield Drive, Burns Road and Shunn Way.

Reports of wires down or trees blocking the road elsewhere in Gwinnett: High Point Road, Snellville; Bethesda Church Road, Lawrenceville; Rosebud Road, Grayson; Alcovy Road, Dacula, Litchfield Road, Snellville; Saddle Court, Norcross; Rockbridge Road, Norcross; Bramlett Shoals Road, Lawrenceville; Pleasantdale Road, Doraville; Lenora Church Road, Snellville; Johnson Drive, Snellville; Gala Trail, Snellville; Lucelle Avenue, Stone Mountain; Pucketts Drive, Stone Mountain; Buford Drive, Lawrenceville; Sweet Shrub Circle, Lawrenceville; Rotondo Place, Norcross; Veracruz Drive, Snellville; Centennial Trail, Duluth.

No fires were reported in Lilburn, according to Rutledge, but home fires possibly started by lightning Monday were reported at 2501 Crumps Landing Circle in Snellville and 3659 Cecilia Way in Loganville. No significant damage was reported to either house.
