Suspects Arrested for Robbing Taxi Drivers

Inside the Police Reports: Two men are arrested for robbing multiple taxi drivers at gunpoint, with two incidents taking place in Lilburn.

Two suspects have been arrested for allegedly robbing multiple taxi drivers, with two incidents taking place on the same street near Burns Road.

The Lilburn armed robberies occurred during the evening hours of Dec. 3 and the early morning hours the next day.

The Dec. 4 incident was reported by a Duluth man, 50, who had driven two black males to Burns Walk Court, says the police report, where he was robbed at gunpoint.

He told police that they had taken his jacket, cell phone, wallet and money. After he told the two men that he didn't have any more money, they began punching him numerous times in the face, causing bruises and bleeding. They then ran on foot toward Burns Road.

During the car ride, which started when the taxi driver picked the two up on the 4800 block of Kelly Mill Drive around 12:49, the suspects told the driver to go to the Woodcliff Apartment complex in Lawrenceville and the Shell gas station on Dickens Road and Indian Trail Lilburn Road. They didn't pull out the gun until they approached their third destination, a "friend's house" near Burns Walk Court, though.

Taking place the night before, the other incident had a similar destination and scenario, according to the police reports. After stopping at Family Dollar on Indian Trail Road in Norcross, the 52-year-old Norcross taxi driver drove them to Burns Walk Court via their directions.

As the car approached the dead-end street, one of the suspects asked the driver if he had change for $50. The victim said yes, then felt a large frame handgun pushed into the back of his head. The suspects left with the driver's cell phone and money.

The driver told police that he wasn't suspicious of them until they arrived at their first destination, Publix, on Indian Trail Lilburn Road in Norcross. They had appeared relaxed until they saw a police car parked in front of the grocery store. The suspect changed his mind and wanted to go to the Family Dollar instead on the other side of the shopping center.

After further investigation, Gwinnett PD was able to obtain warrants for the two men for armed robbery and aggravated assault. Both males were in Gwinnett County jail at the time the warrants were obtained.
