UPDATE: Train Derails in Lawrenceville

Four cars went off the track, causing its load of grain to spill.

A train went off its tracks in unincorporated Lawrenceville Tuesday afternoon. At around 3pm, its last four cars went off the tracks behind Caboose Ct. Near the intersection of Sugarloaf Pkwy and Lawrenceville Hwy. The cars were carrying cornmeal for animal feed, which spilled on to the sides of the tracks.

The train rolls behind the house where John Lumpkin and his brother Donald live. The two did hear the commotion. "But we're so used to hearing the train roll by, we never thought nothing about it," said John.

Cpl. Jake Smith of the Gwinnett County Police Department said CSX, who owns the tracks, expects to have the cars upright and the cornmeal cleaned up by Wednesday morning.

There were no hazardous materials being carried on the train and no injuries were reported.
