Two Arrested in Series of Bank Robberies

Two suspects are charged with the August robbery of a Lilburn Wells Fargo Bank and a SunTrust Bank in Norcross, and they may face more charges in a string of bank heists around Metro Atlanta.

Two men have been charged in a series of recent robberies around Metro Atlanta, including that of a Wells Fargo Bank in unincorporated Lilburn and a SunTrust branch in Norcross.

Henry Lee Johnson, 20, and Ebanga Asuamah, 27, were arrested and charged with the Lilburn and Norcross robberies, Cpl. Jake Smith of the Gwinnett County police said.

Additional charges are being investigated by police in Gwinnett, Dunwoody, Sandy Springs and the FBI, Smith said in an email.

In the August robbery of the Lilburn Wells Fargo, an armed man took $10,000 from tellers and feld. In November, a man entered the SunTrust Bank in Norcross and demanded cash at gunpoint, jumping up on a counter and threatening the teller. He took about $18,000 and fled.

In September, there were robberies similar to the Lilburn heist at a Regions Bank in Dunwoody and a Wells Fargo Bank in Sandy Springs. Gwinnett police began working with the police forces in those areas and with the FBI.

"The investigation led detectives to suspect that Henry Lee Johnson was involved in the robbery" in Lilburn Smith said. Later investigations into the series led detectives to Asuamah. The two had been arrested earlier in the year by Dunwoody police.

The two suspects were arrested without incident earlier this week.
