Two boys, 1 and 3 years old, were killed and another 3-year-old boy was critically injured in what police are describing as a multiple homicide on Bridle Path Drive in unincorporated Lawrenceville.

A man was also injured and taken to an area hospital, according to Cpl. Jake Smith of the Gwinnett County Police Department.

The children were all found in the finished basement of the home. According to Cpl. Smith, the injured boy was taken by helicopter to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. There was no word of his condition late Wednesday.

The man was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. It is not yet clear if the man was the children's father or stepfather.

Smith says it is not yet clear if the victims were shot or stabbed.

The mother of the three boys was not home at the time of the homicides. Smith said she has been accounted for and was unharmed. Smith also said the family who lives upstairs in the home were not on the property at the time.

Smith says they are searching for a suspect or suspects and motive at this time.
