Crime & Safety

Why Vaccinating Your Pet is Critical

SafetySmart Lilburn is again sponsoring a arabies vaccination clinic.

First, it is a deadly disease that affects not only animals, but also affects humans.  If an animal with rabies bites another animal or human the disease spreads and causes the brain to swell affecting the central nervous system.  In humans, if treatment is not given quickly and before severe symptoms occur, it will cause death.  There is no treatment for rabies in animals, they will die.

Second, the Lilburn area has already had one confirmed case of rabies in 2013.  A raccoon found at 525 Holy Ridge Road, tested positive for rabies at the state laboratory.  And, two raccoons found in Buford in January also tested positive for rabies.

Finally, it is the law.  The Gwinnett County Board of Health requires that dogs and cats be vaccinated against rabies by a licensed veterinarian.

If you want to vaccinate your pet, please visit us at the "Lilburn Rabies Clinic" on Saturday, April 6th, any time between 9 AM and Noon.  Vaccinations are only $10.00 per shot, no other fees apply and cash only.  You will receive paperwork and a collar tag which confirms that your pet has been vaccinated.
