Call for Georgia Artists to Design Roundabouts, March Mixer on Tap

The Lilburn Arts Alliance recently held an open public meeting, and at it, members discussed a likely contest to design the city's new roundabout art.

The Lilburn Arts Alliance announced that a contest is brewing to design the city's roundabouts near the new City Hall building.

According to an email from alliance leader Sonny Franks, the group "revealed an exciting" opportunity for artists to design proposals for the public art to be constructed with the new roundabouts along the realigned Main Street.

No details are available just yet, but Franks said the contest would be limited to Georgia artists. (See attached layouts of the road, as well as a rendering of the new city hall building.)

City council has not voted on any such contest. Also, city leaders have not decided yet what to do about a public art agreement already in the works.

The city retained Dave Govedare, a resident of Chewelah, Wash., as the artist for the roundabouts, and he has been paid $5,000 as a design fee. No other payments have been made.
