Celebrate Earth Day at Lilburn's 'Great American Clean Up'

In celebration of Earth Day, the city of Lilburn is hosting its annual "Great American Clean Up" later this month.

The event is 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., April 27, at Lilburn City Hall’s overflow parking lot.

This will be a time when residents can clean out the clutter in their homes or offices, and clean up Lilburn in the process. Recycle bins, as well as Dumpsters will be available.

According to the city of Lilburn, there will be several new additions to this year's clean up:

• The city will donate all cell phones collected at the event to Zoo Atlanta’s "Call4Gorillas Partner Program." The city's goal is 200 phones. For each phone collected, Zoo Atlanta will make a donation to The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International, Zoo Atlanta’s partner for gorilla conservation.

• Also, residents can donate clean towels and washcloths to the Gwinnett County Animal Shelter. A collection bin will be available.

Other on-site services will be:

• Secure paper shredding, provided by A1 Shredding and Recycling, Inc.

• Scrap metal removal, provided by Widenation Recycling

• Residential tire recycling (five tires are the maximum number per person), provided by Liberty Tire Recycling, LLC

• Electronics recycling, provided by CompuPoint USA

• Dumpsters for bulk trash items, provided by Advanced Disposal

The city of Lilburn also notes that businesses are welcome to participate in all recycling opportunities, except for tire recycling. Additionally, Dumpsters are on a first come, first served basis, and construction materials are not accepted.
