The city of Lilburn held its monthly meeting on March 11 at City Hall.

The Lilburn City Council met on Monday, March 11, for its monthly work session and regular meeting. Here is a quick run-down of what the major happenings were.

1. Youth Art Month Proclamation

March 2013 will celebrated as Youth Art Month in the city of Lilburn. All citizens are encouraged to support art educational experiences for all children. In part, the proclamation read: "We hold the arts programs in our schools to be essential and viable academic endeavors, for art education develops self-esteem, appreciation of the work of others, and critical thinking skills vital to the success of future leaders."

The proclamation was accepted by Pat Shaver, of the Lilburn Woman's Club. The club is hosting a special art program in April for Lilburn's children. The women will be collecting art from elementary schools in the area, and then host a children's art show, "Spring into Art." The event will be held 2 p.m. - 4 p.m., April 28, at the Lilburn City Hall.

City council members unanimously approved the application of Hookah Haven Restaurant and Lounge for an alcohol license for the sale of beer, wine and distilled spirits for consumption on-premises, as recommended by the city of Lilburn's  Alcohol Review Board. The business is located at 375 Rockbridge Road, Suite 200.

3. Public Art Agreement

City council members unanimously voted to terminate an agreement with Dave Govedare, a Washington-based artist, who was retained to design sculptures for the Camp Creek Greenway in Lilburn.

The Main Street realignment project will begin soon, therefore "council has decided to use the current balance of the city's public art fund to purchase artwork for a roundabout in that project," said Nikki Young, the city's public relations manager.

The city is working with the Lilburn Arts Alliance to determine art selection. A special contest for the design is being considered.
