City of Lilburn Salutes Veterans

Today the city will honor veterans with a special ceremony. Already, some 80 flags fly along city property in memory of veterans.

The city of Lilburn will honor veterans today, Nov. 11, in a special ceremony.

The celebration takes place 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. at the Lilburn City Park. As part of the city's commemoration, it has already placed some 80 flags in memory of deceased veterans at City Hall and near the intersection of Main Street andn U.S. Highway 29.

The Sunday ceremony will include an inspirational address from Maj. Ron Tootle, the senior instructor for the Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps at Parkview High School.

The Gwinnett Community Band will provide patriotic music, and the Girl Scouts will assist in the honor guard and flag retirement ceremony.

Following the ceremony, citizens can join the local Veterans of Foreign Wars, or VFW, league for a hot dog cookout provided by the Kroger at Mountain Park. The Lilburn Woman's Club is also sponsoring the event.
