Delegate's Diary: Day 2, on Former President Bill Clinton

In a nearly 50-minute speech, former President Bill Clinton kept the audience enraptured, including a local Georgia delegate from Lilburn.

Ilene Johnson, one of Georgia's delegates to the Democratic National Convention, said former President Bill Clinton's speech certainly was successful.

In a quick email to Patch, she said: "Clinton’s speech was amazing. The place was packed to the rafters, and hardly anybody was in the hallways when he was talking."

She, along with several other delegates are participating in the state's "delegate diaries," and posting updates about her experiences.

And, in today's posting, Johnson noted that she didn't get to write one about her first day, as she was "dead on my feet" from all the festivities and just four hours of sleep.

Although exhausted, after hearing former President Bill Clinton issue a rousing declaration in favor of President Barack Obama, Johnson wrote: "I’m fired up and ready to go today! This has been an exciting time."

But, Patch asked in an email, did Clinton's speech truly work in favor of the president?

Johnson replied: "Absolutely."

After the speech, Georgia delegates cast their votes in favor of the president during the official role call. They were led by the Rev. Joseph Lowery.

Obama takes the stage to give his speech and accept the Democratic nomination on Sept. 6.
