The snowfall that began Tuesday (Jan. 28) in Gwinnett County and across metro Atlanta is leading to dangerous road conditions overnight and into Wednesday.

In a news release, Georgia Department of Transportation spokesperson Natalie Dale said, "As people get home from work, we ask them to stay there and not drive again unless necessitated by an emergency.”

The department advises the public to refrain from travel that is all but absolutely necessary until midday Wednesday at the soonest, the release said.

If motorists must travel, they are urged to be patient with conditions and with each other, and be extremely cautious. Also, avoid driving after dark, as black ice will form on streets, roads and highways, and is virtually impossible to detect in the dark, the release said.
