How Lilburn Voted: A Look at Local Precincts from Tuesday's Special Election

The BOC Chair race was closer in Lilburn-Mountain Park.

New Gwinnett County Board of Commission Chair by almost 30 points over Larry Gause.

But in Greater Lilburn, the race was a lot closer.

Lilburn Patch took a precinct-by-precinct look at the unofficial vote count available on www.gwinnettcounty.com to gauge how the area voted. We looked at the 21 precincts located in zip codes 30047 (Lilburn) and 30087 (Mountain Park) to make some conclusions on voter turnout and trends.

Here’s what we found:

  • Nash carried all but seven of the precincts, but her 44 percent of the local vote was far below her countywide numbers. Nash received 1,254 of the 2,849 votes counted in the 21 precincts. Overall, she drew 10,693 votes (55.99 percent) of the 19,118 votes counted in 156 county precincts.
  • Gause, who had 4,977 votes (26.06 percent) countywide, took 32.8 percent of the vote in Greater Lilburn. He had 934 votes locally and won seven Lilburn-Mountain Park precincts, most of them bordering the DeKalb County line south of Lilburn.
  • Lilburn resident Will Costa, who finished fourth (1,690 votes, 8.85 percent) overall, fared a bit better here. Costa had 344 votes locally (12.1 percent), and finished ahead of Duane Kissel.
  • Kissel, who had 1,704 votes (8.92 percent) countywide, drew 307 (10.7 percent) in Greater Lilburn.

Voter turnout in Lilburn and Mountain Park was a bit better than the county average. Of the 40,854 registered voters in the 21 precincts, 2,849 votes were counted (6.97 percent). As a whole, Gwinnett County was at 4.98 percent.
