I-85 Express Lane Work Planned

Nightly lane closures begin today.

Construction on the I-85 HOT lanes continues this week, with nightly interstate lane closures on both northbound and southbound lanes to install cables and other equipment. 

Up to three lanes may be closed, with work focused on the left HOV lanes, which are being converted to HOT lanes. Any triple lane closures will occur after midnight, according to the Georgia DOT. 

Northbound lane closures will begin at 10 p.m. and continue overnight until 5 a.m. the next day. Southbound lane closures will begin at 8 p.m., continuing until 5 a.m. the next day.

Tuesday, Aug. 23: Work zone on I-85 North and South from I-285 West to about half a mile north of I-285. A second work zone is planned for SR 316 westbound from I-85 to Herrington Road.

Wednesday, Aug. 24:
Three work zones are planned along I-85 North and South. The first southbound work zone is from half a mile south of Jimmy Carter Blvd to about half a mile north of Jimmy Carter Blvd, which will include closing multiple lanes and pacing traffic.

The I-85 southbound work zone is from Steve Reynolds Boulevard to Beaver Ruin Road

A second southbound work zone will close the HOV lane only from Pleasant Hill Road to Old Peachtree Road.

The I-85 northbound work zone is from SR 316 to SR 120/Duluth Highway. Each lane closure begins with one lane closed in each direction. At 11 p.m. a second left lane in each direction will close. At 12 a.m. a third left lane in each direction will close and traffic will be paced from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m., several times an hour.

Additional northbound lane closures will be from SR 120 to Sugarloaf Parkway.

Thursday, Aug. 25:  
The I-85 southbound work zone is from Beaver Ruin Road to SR 316The lane closure begins with one lane closed in each direction. At 11 p.m. a second left lane in each direction will close. At 12 a.m. a third left lane in each direction will close and traffic will be paced from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m., several times an hour.

Friday, Aug. 26: 
A work zones is planned on I-85 southbound only and will include closing multiple lanes and pacing traffic from Chamblee-Tucker Road to North of I-285.  At 11 p.m. a second left lane in each direction will close. At 12 a.m. a third left lane in each direction will close and traffic will be paced from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m., several times an hour.

When completed, registered transit buses, motorcycles, alternative fueled vehicles and vehicles with three or more passengers will be allowed to use the inside (left) HOT lane for free, while single- and double-occupant vehicles will be allowed to use the lane if they choose to pay a variably priced toll.
