Announcements

  • Post 1 Councilman Thomas Wight announced that he has resigned from the council, because he is a qualified candidate for the 7th Congressional District. His term expires Dec. 31, 2015. Because more than 12 months remain in the term, the city must hold a special election to fill the seat. Post 1 will remain vacant until the special election on Nov. 4, 2014.
  • Officer Grant Peehler retired after 26 years of service to the Lilburn Police Department.
  • Officer Keith Boles was promoted to Sargeant.
  • The Lilburn Police Department Explorers traveled to Gatlinburg, Tenn., on Feb. 7-8 for the annual Winterfest competition. The group placed 2nd in the Felony Stops category out of 24 teams. They also placed 4th in Active Shooter category out of 29 teams.  Law Enforcement Exploring is a worksite-based program for young men and women ages 14-21. Exploring is governed by Learning for Life, which is a division of the Boy Scouts of America.
  • March is Youth Art Month and American Red Cross Month, as proclaimed by the Council. Artist Christina Le, 10, was honored and her artwork will be hung in a City Hall.

  • The Council voted to adjust the fiscal year 2013-2014 budget for a previously approved mural expense of $10,000. The Railroad Avenue mural project was funded by the public art fund. It needed to be added into the budget as a line item, as a matter of housekeeping. This is not a new expense. Vote: 3-0, Scott Batterton absent

Public Comment

  • Timothy Pojunas of Velva Way asked the Council to address speeding traffic on Velva Way.
